Our direct client is looking to hire immediately a Sr. RPG Developer on a Contract basis. 
Duration: 6 -12+ months contract

Job Summary
The developer develops, maintains, and supports new and existing software systems. The position works very closely with other IT staff and business contacts.
Job Responsibilities
Application Development
  • Designs, develops, tests, maintains and supports division-wide systems.
  • Works with business analyst and business users to gather requirements, conduct analysis and prioritize requests.
  • Participates in architecture and design of the software development activities for organization.
  • Develops software as part of a team; writing clean, clear, commented code to specification.
  • Must apply generally accepted programming standards and techniques to ensure efficient program logic and data manipulation.
  • Analyzes software performance and identifies alternatives for optimizing the usage of computer resources.
  • Utilizes and ensures proper usage of version control software during development.
Functional Design and Analysis
  • Translates project requirements into functional and non-functional specifications.
  • Participates in functional design sessions.
  • Participates in the design team with product analysis and design efforts, participates in the technical design effort.
  • Gathers business requirements and maps them to software technical designs to ensure that business needs and users’ requirements are met.
  • Utilizes and encourages software industry best practices and design patterns.
  • Designs sustainable software systems to meet the company’s goals.
  • Ensures software technical designs are appropriately documented.
  • Ensures system architecture is flexible, maintainable, sustainable and reviewed by the IT Staff.
QA and Testing
  • Performs unit and integration testing of code during development; including testing code of other engineers.
  • Reviews requirements, specifications, functions, performance, reliability, usability, testability, scalability, and security within the software.
  • Monitors program performance after implementation to ensure optimal performance in production environments.
  • Participates in the quality resolution of issues or concerns related to system testing and end user issues following through to completion and communicating resolution results to development team
Applies Information Systems Knowledge
Maintains and applies specific knowledge of information systems elements (hardware, software, network) and their application to business functions/processes.
Designs/Develops Integrated Solutions to Business Problems
Determines business requirements / critical elements of the problem to be solved; researches and identifies alternatives; develops business case; creates project, program, and/or process designs; ensures solution meets specifications and goals impacting service, cost, and/or quality.
Application Support
The provision of application maintenance and support services. Support may be provided both to users of the systems and to service delivery functions. Support typically takes the form of investigating and resolving issues and providing information about the systems. It may also include monitoring their performance. Issues may be resolved by providing advice or training to users about an application's functionality, correct operation or constraints, by devising work-arounds, correcting faults, making general or site-specific modifications, updating system documentation, manipulating data, or defining enhancements – often in close collaboration with the system's developers and/or with colleagues specializing in different areas, such as Database administration or Network support.
Solicits and Gathers Information
Uses information gathering techniques such as asking open and closed-ended questions, probing for details, and interviewing to obtain new and additional information or details from others.
Technical Skills 
AS/400 RPG III/RPG ILE, CL, and DB2/400 development skills and experience (Required)
Exposure to ERP applications in a manufacturing (Preferred)
